Jan Kalmar – born and living in Denmark – is an adventurer, petrol head and extreme driver who is constantly exploring the planet on four wheels. His lifelong passion has led to an extensive network. Jan has bent the limits for automotive challenges for over 20 years and even set World Records in the process.

After many years of developing and executing extraordinary driving programs and driving experiences for automotive manufacturers we decided in 2019 to do it under our own brand! With Jan Kalmar Beyond Adventure we offer extraordinary Automotive Adventure Experiences and create the best driving program in the world. Our passion is to drive to experience the extraordinary world around us in cars specially designed for hard-to-reach areas with unforgettable sceneries.

Beyond Adventures are distinctive in the way they are selected, planned and executed and aim to be non-comparable. All unmistakably with the signature and uniqueness of Jan Kalmar attached to it. Founder of Beyond Adventure and mastermind behind our unique adventures and the Classic Rally Style drive.

Registration and payment

How do I sign up for a Beyond Adventure? How do I book a Beyond Adventure?

Please fill out the contact form, send us an email to office@jankalmar.com about your booking request or contact our General Manager in WhatsApp . We will check the booking status and when seats are available, we will provide you an information package, a Registration Form as well as our Terms and Conditions. You then have to fill out the Registration Form, sign and return to us. Our team is at your disposal to answer all your remaining questions and to finalize your booking at any time.

Who is Operator of the Beyond Adventure events?

Beyond Adventure Events are organized in cooperation between Jan Kalmar Beyond Adventure OÜ and the Tour Operator and contractual partner for the booking Voya Travel ApS. Jan Kalmar Beyond Adventure OÜ acts as representative to the Operator and assures high quality customer experience events and is the main point of contact to the Participant. The Operator is member of the Danish Travel Guarantee Fund (No 2352).

What is the price of a Beyond Adventure? Where do I find the price for a Beyond Adventure?

We do not publish our event prices on our webpage. But we are happy to provide you all detailed price information on request – no matter if you want to join as a single participant, a couple or in a larger group.

Which services are included in the price?

It always depends on the Beyond Adventure but most adventures include the following services:

  • Beyond Adventure vehicle according to event description
  • Overnights
  • All breakfasts, lunches and dinners and non-alcoholic drinks
  • Beyond Adventure organization
  • Shuttles from and to destination airport
  • GSM / Satellite data connection
  • ERV travel insurance (unless described otherwise in the Event description)
  • Third-Party vehicle insurance and full comprehensive insurance with a described excess fee (unless described otherwise in the Event description).

Not included in the participation price for the adventure are:

  • Any costs for travel arrangements to and from the Event location airport
  • Additional costs in the hotel (alcohol, minibar, drinks at the bar, etc.)
  • Excluded services listed in the Event description

Can I create my own Beyond Adventure? Can you provide individualized adventures?

  • We create customized and unique adventures fully tailored to your wishes with a perfect mix of exploring, enjoyment and amazement.
  • Select your adventure destination and driving experience – based on our existing customer program or we are always ready to develop your completely new and bespoke program.
  • Personalize the adventure down to the smallest details – destination, route, vehicle selection, driving program, degree of adventure level, activities, accommodation, group size – all up to you.
  • Create long-lasting bonds and unforgettable once in a lifetime experiences. Individual designed Adventures or special group bookings are possible.

What cancellation terms apply?

When should I register for an event?

We recommend registering after new event dates have been published. As many of our Beyond Adventures are one offs it is recommended not to wait for too long because when a Beyond Adventure is fully booked it is no longer possible to register.

Can I register an accompanying person, partner or group?

Yes, you can also register for an accompanying person, partner and a group. Conditions are always depending on the selected Beyond Adventure. Mostly our events are designed for 2 active drivers per vehicle. An accompanying person therefore for example needs to pay the full participation fee even though this person is not driving.

How can I pay?

Payments can be made by bank transfer or credit card. Payments to be made only in EUR.

When do I have to pay for the adventure? How high is the deposit?

The particular conditions of payment are stated on your order confirmation.

At receipt of the registration confirmation a deposit of usually 25 % of the total participation price is due. The balance must be paid 90 days before start of Event. Deposit and balance are shown in the confirmation invoice.

What does ‘Pre-location-check’ mean?

All of us are busy and last minute 2-week trips are nearly impossible, even 6-12 months lead time has turned out to be too short for many. Therefore, we have a 2-3-year plan in place – this gives you the needed time to plan well in advance to ensure you have time to take part in our once-in-a-lifetime Beyond Adventures.

We established a concept called “Pre-Location-Check-Highlights” – here we present well-planned adventures with full itineraries and on request prices. But as the world around us is quickly changing, our final location checks take place 9-12 months prior to the actual Adventure takes place and only when enough interest in the specific adventure is shown. Final adjustments are based on the final location check and they will only make your experience with us even better. The overall theme of the trip will not change, but route optimizations with the minor shifting of dates by 1 to 2 days can occur.

You don’t need to wait to book an adventure until the final location check is done – we offer you a full deposit refund if the changes are not acceptable. For us, only the best is good enough, therefore, we are sure all changes will only be seen as positive.

What if my travel partner does not want to drive?

Should your partner not wish to drive, then you have double the time behind the wheel, and they can enjoy the stunning scenery and excitement of being the navigator.

Mostly pricing for the Beyond Adventures is per person and based on two people occupying each vehicle. Typically, the driving is shared between the two occupants, who alternate between spending half the time behind the wheel and half the time as navigator.

What is the minimum number of participants?

The trip will only take place if at least this minimum number of participants has registered. We will notify you in good time if the trip will not take place.

What is the maximum number of participants?

The maximum number of participants is usually defined at 12-14. The number can be increased if the demand is very high and for individual group requests.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Can you help me with my travel arrangements?

Travel arrangements are not part of the included services.

But at your request, we are happy to provide assistance around your selected Beyond Adventure with arranging flights, extra overnights through our travel agency partner.

When do I receive the Final Information Package?

A detailed ‘Final Information Package’ will be provided the latest 4 weeks prior to the event.

What documents do I all need to sign?

At the beginning of the event and at the check-in the latest the Participant is required to sign: Vehicle Rental Agreement, Exclusion of Liability, Data Privacy Agreement.

What kind of luggage should I take with me?

As we are travelling and constantly changing hotels and accommodation it is recommended to have flexible and not too large luggage that can easily be loaded and unloaded into cars. Also we kindly ask you to consider the limited loading space in the vehicles when packing.

What kind of clothing or equipment should I bring?

We will inform you in our Final Information Package about what to bring and not to forget for your Beyond Adventure.

Do I need a visa? How does it work with visas?

Please note that you are responsible for the compliance with visa, passport, health and customs regulations by yourself. These regulations depend on your nationality. Please contact the responsible authorities for further information and make arrangements as required. We recommend ensuring you have a valid passport with at least six months remaining to your date of return.

What insurances do you offer?

We provide a ERV travel insurance (unless described otherwise in the Event description) as well as Third-Party vehicle insurance and comprehensive insurance with a described excess fee (unless described otherwise in the Event description).

On event

Is the airport shuttle to the hotel taken care of at the destination?

We will pick you up at the destination airport and we will also bring you to the airport after the event according to your departure time.

What languages do you speak? In which language will the event be guided?

Our main language spoken on event is English. For other languages please contact us.

What kind of accommodation are we staying in?

In a nutshell: Wherever we go we select the best available accommodation! For this reason accommodation is arranged where possible in top-class individual boutique hotels or in unique, experiential accommodation including villas, camps, lodges! Sometimes it can be a bit simpler as there is simply no better alternative and in some cases even our own Beyond Adventure Camp (make a link to the beyond Adventure Camp question) will be set-up.

What food is served on the adventure?

The idea of Beyond Adventure is also to let you experience the country and destination you are travelling through – including the gastronomic experience. Breakfasts are included in accommodation packages. Lunch options are generally a bit simpler and event arranged on route. Nevertheless, we always try to let you experience the local cuisine.

For dinner we usually take more time and select a good combination of fine dining and authentic local cuisine. Depending on the location it can be the hotel we are staying in, an award-winning restaurant or a local hidden gem. And sometimes it can be a BBQ under one million stars in the middle of nowhere!

Alcoholic beverages are not included in the services. This is because of the diversity of preferences.

What is a Beyond Adventure Camp?

Overnight stays are a crucial element when creating a Beyond Adventure. When planning a route, the first step is to connect the places to sleep at. But in some areas there is simply no usable accommodation, therefore we have developed our own high-end camp set up which gives us flexibility and the opportunity to reach much further into the wilderness and the unknown. Being aware of the idea behind our Beyond Adventures and the urge to explore and go further than others. Our Beyond Adventure Camp has warm showers, great BBQ and cozy campfire waiting for you…

Cars and driving

What cars do you offer? Can I choose a car?

The cars we offer always depends on the respective Beyond Adventure. Details can be found in the Event description.

Generally, we have the following cars available:

  • KALMAR RS
  • KALMAR CS
  • Local rental cars and fleets (4×4 SUVs)

Can I bring my own car?

How many cars are participating per adventure?

We have small groups and therefore we have usually maximum 6-7 cars and an average group size of 8-12 persons/4-6 cars.

How does the Classic Rally Style Work?

For us the experience must be distinctive – we supply the best service wherever we go but
never lose the flexibility and individual approach. Therefore have we developed an unique
Classic Rally-Style Driving Concept for Beyond Adventure, not competing for the
fastest time but instead for the most precise timing. This means you will get exact time slots within you have to navigate together with your co-driver to the next meeting point. There is time for pictures, but not for many breaks.

Overall you have the freedom to drive and navigate by yourself independently. Of course, the support team is always close by and for the most challenging stages, the entire group stays together. And don’t worry at the welcome briefing all will be explained in detail!

What happens if I get lost?

The support team is always close by and for the most challenging stages, the entire group stays together anyway. Behind the scenes, a team of travel experts is on stand-by from start to finish following you via GPS satellite connected tracking for your safety and comfort – always ready to support if needed.

On top you have a radio and a special navigation tablet device in your car for: Worldwide two-way communication, Digital offline map where you always know where you are, Wi-Fi hotspot.

How are the roads and routes like?

Our passion is driving and with Beyond Adventure we are always in search of the most spectacular roads and routes off the beaten path on all kinds of terrain. Simply we choose roads and routes where no one normally goes.

Will I be driving alone? Or is there convoy driving?

For most of our Beyond Adventures we drive in our Classic-Rally Style. And for the most challenging stages, the entire group stays together in a convoy.

Will I be sharing a car?

Generally our Beyond Adventures are designed for 2 active drivers per vehicle. When you register just yourself for an event we will allocate a second person to the vehicle and you are sharing driving time. For an additional fee you can book the vehicle exclusively (single driver option).

How are the cars insured?

Third-Party vehicle insurance and comprehensive insurance with a described excess fee (unless described otherwise in the Event description).

What happens in case of an incident or emergency?

In case of an emergency, break down or a simple puncture, there is always support close by. So, although you drive solitary, you are never alone, even in the most remote areas. On special adventures a paramedic is present to ensure premedical assistance in an unlikely event of emergency.

How high is the excess fee in case of an incident?

The amount of the excess varies per event and starts at 7.500 Euro per incident/damage (unless described otherwise in the Event description or Vehicle Rental Agreement).
